Visual artist Pia Hentunen has held exhibitions since 1996 and taken part in several regional, national and international group exhibitions. Hentunen works with a variety of mediums such as agricultural art, environmental art, painting, sculpture and street art. Her works can be found for example from the Finnish State Art and Oulu Art Museum collections. Hentunen has a background as an animal ecology researcher, which also inspired the work seen at Art Ii Biennial.
Insects play a key role in ecosystems. Invisible insects is a series of sculptures of insects native to the Northern area that indicate the health of the biodiversity in Northern Ostrobothnia. These remarkable insects are often very conventional and non-sparkly, and through the artwork they become visible. The sculpted insects made from recycled and eco-friendly materials will find their home from the trees of Ii.

The artwork will be revealed to the public as part of the opening of the Art Ii Biennial at the newly built Lähde! -park in Ii. The artwork will be open to public until the end of the summer!

DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS (TOWARDS NORTH):
- While in Ii, heading north on the E75/E8 road, take the first exit at the first roundabout right past a Shell gas station.
- Follow Asematie for 1,5km and turn left to the parking lot area of the local health centre.
- Walk around the building on either side to find the Lähde! park. Follow the signs to find the specific location of the artwork within the park.
