Chapel of Breathing

A performance in the art tent by KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre; 17th and 18th June.
Pernilla Eskilsson & Carina Ahlskog

Chapel of Breathing is a live happening where the artists invite the visitors to breathe together with them. Breathing together happens quietly with blindfolded eyes in a large tent acting as a chapel where you can settle down in silence. “By listening and feeling the rhythm of life, we find a common breath.”

Pernilla Eskilsson (SWE) and Carina Ahlskog (FIN) are visual performance artists who have never seen each other – they have only breathed the same air. The artists found each other through social media and they will see each other physically for the first time at the end of the Chapel of Breathing performance. In the past, they have only communicated through messages.

Eskilsson creates images in the urban space and utilizes the textile art she creates in them. Ahlskog combines visual art and modern dance in her art, and has made an international impact in addition to Finland.
